Martin Scorsese's documentary film "Shine a Light" features concert footage from the Rolling Stone's most recent tour.
We saw it on the IMAX screen, the only way to see a concert film.
It was great to see the Stones play live. What a show. It was true theater. I heartedly recommend it.
Here are some of my thoughts as I reflect on the film:
IMAX doesn't leave a whole lot to the imagination. Some details just shouldn't be as big as a house, like Mick's fillings when he opened his mouth to sing.
The movie really emphasized the musicality, or lack of it, that a band that has touring for over 4 decades. Scorsese may not like Keith Richards. Keith did not come away from this treatment a hero, at least not in my eyes. I think that Scorsese is taking sides in the Woods versus Richards battle for Guitar God. If this was the best footage he got of Keith performing then I would hate to see what was left on the cutting room floor. I definitely left the movie thinking about which of the guitarists I have been listening to and admiring all of these years.
