What I am reading: The Glorious Deception

The Glorious Deception: The Double Life of William Robinson, aka Chung Ling Soo, the "Marvelous Chinese Conjurer" by Jim Steinmeyer

I have always been fascinated by magic and magicians. One of my favorite memories from childhood is seeing Doug Henning perform at the Ohio Theater. My brother was selected as a volunteer to inspect the trunk for the "Metamorphosis" illusion. We went to the stage door after the show and had the opportunity to meet the magician and talk with him for a short while.

Steinmeyer last book Hiding the Elephant was full of great stories about famous illusions and illusionists. It suffered from poor editing. I was happy to see that he has better support with this well written biography.

If you are interested in magic at the turn of the last century, you too will enjoy this book.
